It's about time Ellwood-Thompson's threw down with the local art scene by turning its snappy little corner market into an art venue. Apparently, it's hard to display art when you're running a retail business out of a broom closet.
But now that Ellwood's is expanding in a dramatic way, they're apparently going to be celebrating our local artists. Of course, they're starting with Richmond's own Caravaggio, the hyper-celebrated Ed Trask. But they're also going all crazy and actually introducing Richmond to new artists:
We’re going to start off with our friend Ed Trask for the opening
months, but after that, we’d like to introduce you to a lady named
Deane Bowers. Ellwood’s Coffee is working directly with the artist
Deane Bowers, a local found object artist. Deane collects metal trash
from Carytown, the Fan and in particular our parking lot. You can thank
her for never having a flat tire in our parking lot. She collects
anything from scrap paper, rusty metal, bottle caps, nails, and
anything that is able to live a second life. Using glue as the only
material she purchases, Deane is able to create beautiful art from
these discarded items.
