A bit more than a week before the public is invited to help shape the future of downtown Richmond, the city's Department of Community Development has posted details on the public charrette. I've been posting about the charrette since last week, and just began pondering online why the city and Venture Richmond have been behind the curve in publicizing the event. It's good to see the Department of Community Development go public with this amazing opportunity.
Here are some of the details from the department's page:
In order for this plan to reflect a shared community vision, participation from citizens like you is vital. All community members who wish to participate – residents, business owners, non-profits, government officials – are encouraged to attend presentations, design sessions, and the open design studio. Each day’s progress will be displayed in the design studio so that people will immediately see their ideas and vision taking shape.
The effort gets underway from July 20 – 26, 2007 during a series of public events (“charrette week”) that will include Downtown stakeholders in forming the vision of our Master Plan. We invite you to join us during these important events, which will include presentations, a hands-on urban design session, and an open-door design studio.
The kick-off presentation will be next Friday evening at Plant Zero, and public sessions continue through the following week. The schedule, as posted by the city, is:
