My photo has been taken and my invitation has been received, so why wait until press time to bask in the minor glory of making Richmond Magazine's Best and Worst list? (The August issue is not available for another week or so, ye click-obsessed people.) In the process of basking, I took the liberty of looking at my thoughts last year when Richmond's awesome food weblog Brandon Eats received the same honor:
The good news is that Brandon Eats deserves all the fame it gets; Brandon's writing, wit and love of food combine with a down-to-earthiness to make an eminently readable site.
The bad news is that a "Best and Worst" contest is only as good as its audience, and given the rest of the categories (and results), I'm not sure the readership of Richmond Magazine will get invites to my annual holiday party. (When the top two restaurants in the region named by readers are Ruth's Chris and Old Bookbinder's steakhouses, something tells me that I walk a different path from the other subscribers. And Baker's Crust is one of the best bakeries? Sheesh. These people need to get out more.)
One thing I'll be interested in seeing is whether Richmond Magazine's readers have become more or less discerning in the past year. (Or whether I've become more or less discerning in the past year.)
