A new social events site, ShareShade, is designed to keep members of the Richmond area Muslim community connected "to community events and volunteer opportunities throughout the Greater Richmond Area." The site allows users to build a community around an event, and to connect the event to a variety of social media sites.
The site's name is a reference to the Persian and Urdu word for "neighbor" -- hamsayeh means "under the same shade". It's appropriate that the site launched at the start of the Eid holiday; tomorrow is Eid Al-Adha ("Festival of Sacrifice"), a time when traditional Muslim charity is bolstered in an effort to ensure all members of the community are fed.
If you're interested in staying connected with Richmond's Muslim community, be sure to check out ShareShade.
