If you enjoyed the dozen or so farmers' markets scattered throughout the Richmond region last year, you're going to be overwhelmed in 2009 as another cluster of markets opens up in the immediate Richmond area.
The Market Umbrella, a for-profit venture that made its mark last year with the hugely popular South of the James Market, is adding three new venues to its market melange this year -- including a First Friday's Market at Quirk Gallery on Broad Street, the Market Emporium at Bryan Park in Northside Richmond, and the Market Umbrella at Crossroads (near Staples Mill and Broad Street).
The Crossroads market kicks off next Thursday, March 5, from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. Visit The Market Umbrella site for details:
Karen Atkinson, owner of the market umbrella is opening a new market at
Crossroads Shopping Center. This market will be open every Thursday
from 12 - 6 p.m. starting on March 5th. Karen would like to see the
market open all year round in order to give the consumer a place to
purchase the products they usually can purchase only in the summer.
Come on out on March 5th and meet the vendors. Products available will
include, but not limited to, organic vegetables and fruits, chickens,
eggs, meats, jams, honey, plants, Indonesian Organic coffee beans,
Indonesian tea, hot and cold drinks, ice cream, frozen yogurt, wraps
and other finger foods, pies, cookies, jewelry, soy candles, wooden
hand carved items, and more.
