Oddly enough, the two posts that preceded this one (date wise, not reading wise) are why I deserve another stint as Richmond's official Richmond Blog Awards King of the Day -- I waste your time with originally sourced and informative material, and I'm a snappy writer.
Okay, gently setting my ego aside, let's take a look at the RVANews Richmond Blog Awards nominations -- and when you're done, go vote.
In the category of Best New Blog, there is no doubt. The Checkout Girl is the Shopgirl of 2008 and 2009 combined. As much as I adore Jack Goes Forth, The Checkout Girl is so much more unpredictable and jazzy. And she brings some emotional nuance to her writing. She's erudite.
When it comes to Best Kept Secrets, I go for Brie Knows Things, because she does and I think I saw her looking sassy in Lift one day about three months ago. And the other sites are so secret that I've never actually even seen them.
Self-indulgence is an ill-fitting coat, but the Best Comment Thread clearly goes to the very first RVANews Mayoral Forum Live Blogging thread. It boasted Jeff Kelley from Tobacco Avenue, Ross Catrow of RVANews/RVABlogs and me. We had beer, and a plate of strawberries. And a guest appearance by Valerie Catrow.
Because he deserves a couple or three awards, and because he bats about .380 in the humor leagues (which is pretty strong), Jeff Kelley at Tobacco Avenue surely deserves a win for Post of the Year -- primarily because he not only posted about Gene Cox, but apparently people believed him. A sure sign of genius at work.
And, finally, for Best Blog...
Why don't you take care of that one yourself. Go vote now.
