Clamor is probably a strong word, but it's refreshing to see two calls for writers emerge from the local weblog community this week.
First out the gate was community weblog mogul John Murden, who announced an informational meeting for folks interested in writing for three local community blogs -- River District News, Hills&Heights, or Carver&Jackson Ward News. The meeting was tonight, but folks who live in the Manchester/Shockoe; Westover Hills; Stratford Hills; Carver or Jackson Ward areas of town and have a penchant for writing should drop Murden a note at murden@gmail.com. The dozen or so community weblogs generate tens of thousands of page hits a week on a busy week, and are increasingly seen as essential hubs for Richmond's neighborhoods.
Another of the main anchors of the community weblog movement also issued a call for writers this week. RVANews' Valerie Catrow posted this today:
As we head into the new year (2009, wtf guys?) RVANews is looking to add some quality writers to its roster of contributors.

To limit a free-for-all of “Hey, I wanna do some stuff,” we’re asking you to email us with actual “ideas” for “stories.” If we like what we see, we’ll get in touch with you, you’ll write it, we’ll post it and then pay you a moderate sum of money for it.
So, send us your pitches. Bitches.*
All story ideas should be sent to info@rvanews.com. If you really want to help us keep things organized, put “content pitch” in the subject line.
*FYI, I spent a ridiculous amount of time writing this post so it could include that sentence. See the talent you’ll be working with over here???
Hey, all of you journalism majors slumming around Main Street -- get your pencils sharpened. There are opportunities literally at your doorstep. Don't trip over them on the way to Mass Comm 201...
