Not only does Richmond's favorite natural foods store have a new weblog. Yesterday, Ellwood-Thompson's unveiled a portion of its expanded digs:
Everyone at Ellwoods is really excited about some changes that took place in the store yesterday. Ellwood’s Kitchen now has more prepared foods - our hot bar and salad bar have expanded! And while we’re offering an enhanced selection of possible meal choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the price has dropped by $0.50/lb.
And expansion plans continue at the Carytown store and its surroundings -- Ellwood's Coffee will open by the end of the year, and additional stages of expansion will be phased in over the coming months.
But more exciting for fans of the local business is news that Ellwood's is opening a new store serving the Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods of Washington, D.C.
Ellwoods is maintaining its local focus even as it pertains to this
expansion; the new store will be slightly less than 100 miles from Carytown.
Richmond, of course, will continue to be the company’s base camp –
acting as both the heart and nerve center of its operations. Many of
the local farmers and other local purveyors that Ellwood Thompson’s
currently works with will supply the new store as well.
The D.C. location was selected because of the overwhelming support from the communities surrounding it. “We walked the community and talked to the people,” says Ryan Youngman of Ellwood Thompson’s. “The overwhelming support we received from residents confirmed this is the perfect place to expand.” The new store is project to open in fall/winter 2009.
