Best Pledge Request Ever
I received the world's best pledge request in my email box today from my friend John, who plays with the local band NRG Krysys:
There is a 10k race benefiting the Greater Fulton Hill Neighborhood Resource Center this coming Saturday, October 18. The NRC provides a variety of worthwhile programs for all ages (look: http://www.nrccafe.org/
). I am most familiar with it's workings from the excellent Montessori
preschool program which Greta attended. Tuition for this program is
based on income and the program is targeted to the neighborhood, giving
a truly diverse group of kids an opportunity to learn together under
the kind and professionaal tutelage of the excellent teachers.
Now I had every intention of running this race, but it turns out that I will be playing music in a smoky bar the night before and can't honestly see myself getting up and running first thing after going to bed at two or three in the morning. However, I told Mary Lou and Annette, the NRC's hardworking codirectors, that I would try and collect some pledges anyway.
So, let me say to you that I promise to sit the race out and sleep in while my wife and kids volunteer at the event. In fact, beginning at 8 a.m., I will stay in bed an extra minute for every dollar I receive in pledges (up to, say, 180 minutes or so).
Of course, I realize that you don't live in this particular neighborhood and I also realize that there is fierce competition for your charitable dollars and that the economy is in the tank. I am certainly not expecting anything from anyone. However, if you are so moved, you can support the NRC by clicking on the link below and making a pledge.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
