I received a press release this afternoon announcing details on the first restaurant scheduled to open as part of the Lady Byrd Hat Building renovation that will also house Toad's Place nightclub. Looks like things are moving along on the canal. Excerpts follow:
Today, Toad’s Place of Richmond, the live entertainment venue opening along the Historic Kanawha Canal Walk, announces the name and details of the restaurant that will work alongside the venue. This restaurant, to be called “Highwater,” will be located on the first level within the Lady Byrd Hat Building, the only historic building at canal level along the Canal Walk...
... John Adamson, co-owner of the popular Mellow Mushroom restaurant in Charlottesville, will be the General Manager of Highwater... The restaurant will serve classic American cuisine for the 21st century; an intermingling of European, Asian, Southwestern and other flavors. Highwater isn’t forgetting its Virginia roots, though. Adamson is working on having local, organic growers provide as much of the produce as possible.
Highwater has the added bonus of being tied-in with the music venue. Jeff and John have arranged it so that Highwater diners can purchase their tickets at their table before a show, and even skip the lines by using a door that connects the restaurant to the venue.
